The Evolution of Hip-Hop Brochure
I designed a hip-hop brochure for my first-semester Global Project.
Every semester includes a Global Project, where assets developed in each Graphic & Web Design class come together into one unified project. The goal of my project was to educate audiences about the evolution of hip-hop through a printed brochure and a mobile-friendly website.
After researching hip-hop, I created three subtopics:
- History and Origins
- Mainstream Rise
- Today’s Transition
The brochure is an 11 × 17-inch, double-sided PDF designed for print. I used Adobe InDesign to organize text, images, SVGs, and shapes into a clean layout. Then I carefully selected images from Unsplash to maintain a consistent visual identity throughout the project.
I wanted to create strong contrast between bright colours and dark backgrounds. This contrast highlights the energy and atmosphere of hip-hop culture. I also organized the information into clear sections and a specific order. This helps readers follow the content and understand how hip-hop has evolved over time.
I faced a few challenges during the project. In Adobe Photoshop, I had to learn how to optimize images for print. After two test prints, I was satisfied with the results. In Adobe InDesign, I also spent time learning and experimenting with paragraph styles to maintain consistent typography throughout the brochure.
Overall, this Global Project helped me develop my print design skills and improve my understanding of Adobe InDesign. It also taught me how to balance visual appeal with informative content.
