The second semester global-project was about designing a poster and mobile website for community engagement. The goal was to encourage John Abbott CEGEP students to interact with the nature surrounding the campus.

The poster introduces students to the iNaturalist app and explains how they can participate. By using their mobile phones to photograph plants, animals, and other forms of nature around campus, students can explore their surroundings and document local biodiversity.

I used Adobe InDesign as my main application to organize the text, images, and graphic elements. My teacher provided the images, which I edited in Adobe Photoshop to prepare them for print. I also used a plant-green colour palette to reinforce the connection between the poster and its environmental message.

One of my biggest challenges when it came to designing a poster for community engagement was arranging the text using proximity and alignment. I had to ensure that related information stayed together and was easy to follow. To improve the reading flow, I added arrows to guide the audience from one section to the next. I also included a QR code at the end of the informative section to help students access the app and participate.

Overall, this project helped me develop my print layout skills in Adobe InDesign. It also improved my understanding of visual hierarchy, alignment, and proximity. Most importantly, I learned how graphic design can support a community by communicating information clearly and encouraging people to take action.
